Menus.. you feel lost without them
Sites without menus? Thats like going to a restaurant and for them to expect you to know what you want, without having the slightest clue as to the type of food they serve!
As a blogger or a website owner, having a menu system in place is absolutely vital. This is simply to help in guiding your users around the core areas of your site. So before you release your site to the public, ensure that you have this in place else it is going to cause you avoidable loss.
Now how the menu system looks on your site, will depend directly on the theme you have chosen to use with your site. My personal recommendation is Customizr – which is what I am currently using.
So how do you create a menu system within WordPress?
Well if you’re a person that enjoys learning by videos, then check out my YouTube menu tutorial.
As for those of you that would like to learn from step-by-step instructions in this article, just follow along.
Click on ‘Pages’ -> ‘Add New’ in your WP admin side-panel.
Add a title to the page and then publish the page.
Do this 3 times. But on the third page I also want you to select the parent as the second page, for the purpose of this tutorial.
Click on ‘Appearance’ -> ‘Menus’ in you WP admin side-panel.
Click on ‘create a new menu’.
Give your menu a name and then select the button ‘Create Menu’.
Now that your menu has been created, you can simply add in the pages to the menu.
Select all 3 of the pages that you have created, from the list of pages, and then select the button ‘Add to Menu’.
One final modification you may want to do is move the page which has a parent, slightly to the right by dragging it. You should see ‘sub-item’ text appear beside the page.
Depending on your theme, you will be able to select the number of locations for your menu. With Customizr you have two possible locations. For the purpose of this tutorial select the box ‘Main Menu’.
Finally select the button ‘Save Menu’ and.. boom go check your site!
I hope that this benefits the readers of this article.
