wistful

Wistful is an adjective that is used to describe showing a yearning or longing for something that you want to have or do. More specifically for something in the past that previously made you happy.

Examples:

  1. He had a ‘wistful’ look on his face and when asked why, he replied “How lovely was childhood and the freedom it came with”.
  2. Her being ‘wistful’ about a better and happier life, has provided her with an unprecedented amount of motivation to do what is necessary.
  3. I guess that is why they say enjoy everything you have at this present moment in time else you may one day become ‘wistful’ and regretful for wasting such opportunities.
