stringent 1Stringent is an adjective that is used to describe something which is very strict or severe. Compelling, constraining, convincing or forcible.

Examples:

  1. The best school in the city, had very ‘stringent’ criteria for applicants to be marked against.
  2. When it came to general life, the man was very blithe in his ways. On the other hand when matters were related to his business, he had a more ‘stringent’ approach.
