ostensible

Ostensible is an adjective that is used to describe something which is stated as or appearing to be true, but it necessarily isn’t. Pretend, conspicuous.

Examples:

  1. His ‘ostensible’ words regarding an important meet-up, turned out to be a trap to get people to get together for a day out at the theme park.
  2. People may have ‘ostensible’ outward happiness and joy, but inwards they are completely the opposite.
  3. Their ‘ostensible’ statements were a cover for what was really happening behind the scenes.
