awry

Awry can be defined as an adverb or an adjective, which when used gives the meaning of something that is not working correctly or happening in the expected way. Not straight or neat. With a turn or twist. Amiss, wrong.

Examples:

  1. The plans that they had made months before, at the last minute went ‘awry’.
  2. His shirt was tucked out, trousers were too low and his tie was ‘awry’ – he said he is “just another boy from the hood, dressing comfortably in his own way”.
  3. The computer that she had recently purchased, all of sudden had become ‘awry’.
